FBC Karpathos Kite

Karpathos is the second largest of the Greek Dodecanese Islands, in the southeastern Aegean Sea, and is located halfway between its more famous neighbours, the islands of Rhodes and Crete. The island is approximately 320 sq. km in size, with the highest point being Kali Limni, at 1,215 m. Karpathos has stunning beaches famous for crystal clear water and natural beauty, and fantastic hiking and trekking paths that cross the island leading visitors to amazing spots. Picturesque villages, interesting sightseeing and delicious restaurants amaze and delight. Karpathos is characterized by high mountain tops, verdant forests and beautiful bays, it is still relatively undeveloped, and you will not find mass tourism here. It is a place to find peace and quiet, not busy paths and crowded beaches. It´s all about being connected to nature, and feeling part of traditional Greece.

FBC KARPATHOS KITE is situated directly at the beach of the `Luv Spot´on the south west of the island. Karpathos is well known as a high wind destination, and the Meltemi happily shows up in force most days, particularly in high season, but there is a steady wind throughout low season too. The airport is close by (less than 5km), and accommodation is also within easy reach of the center. Ideally, you will need a rental car or a scooter to commute between your main accommodation and the spot.

WE RECOMMEND

Trekking and Hiking - Karpathos is well signposted and hiking trails lead to old chapels, mountainous villages, secluded beaches and hilltops with stunning views to the sea.

Mountain Biking - Enjoy the wonderful conditions for biking on the island either alone or guided

Yoga and Massage - A perfect end or beginning to any day, especially on holiday !

Rock Climbing - Professional guided rock climbing for beginners and more experienced climbers

Boat Trip - Take a boat trip to the remote island of Saria, which was once connected to Karpathos before being separated by an earthquake. The island is totally uninhabited but has some interesting ruins and beautiful beaches.

FBC Zanzibar

Zanzibar is an archipelago made up of Zanzibar and Pemba Islands, and several islets. It is located in the Indian Ocean, about 40 km from the Tanzanian coast. Zanzibar Island is 90 km long and 30 km wide and is characterised by beautiful sandy beaches with fringing coral reefs. The islands produce cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, and black pepper and for this reason are sometimes called the Spice Islands. Over centuries different cultures have influenced Zanzibar to become what it is today. Sumerians, Assyrians, Egyptians, Indians, Chinese, Persians, Portuguse, Omani Arabs, Dutch and British have settled here at one time or another and influenced the local culture into the present fascinating fusion.

FBC ZANZIBAR is set against the stunning background of endless blue Indian Ocean and beautiful white beaches, where the pace of life seemingly hasn't changed for over fifty years. It is located in the friendly fishing village of Paje on the southeast coast - a tranquil and characteristic place known for having one of the most beautiful beaches in East Africa that you will mostly share with seaweed farmers, fishermen and Masai. Tourism is growing at a sustainable pace in Paje and it is safe and easy to navigate the area as a first time visitor. There is a wide range of laid-back hotels and restaurants in Paje & surrounding villages. The spot is about one hour drive from the airport.

Zanzibar's local people are an incredible mixture of ethnic backgrounds, indicative of her colourful history. There are no large wild animals in Zanzibar, and forest areas are inhabited by monkeys, bush-pigs and small antelopes. The coral reefs that surround the East Coast are rich in marine diversity, and make Zanzibar an ideal location for snorkelling and scuba diving.

WE RECOMMEND

Stone Town - Recently declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is one of the most unique cities in the world. Blending Moorish, Middle Eastern, Indian, and African traditions and architectures, it is possible to spend days winding through Stone Town's labyrinthine alleys.

Forodhani Gardens -   For local food this place is definitely worth a visit. It is possibly the cheapest food you will find on the island, and value for money too. Try the local sugar cane juice.

Spice Tours – Pay a visit to a spice farm where your guide will show you how things like cinnamon, jack fruit and kukurma are grown, and will let you taste most of them.

Zanzibar Butterfly Centre - A unique and fascinating opportunity to learn about all the different butterfly lifecycle stages close up in one of Africa's largest butterfly exhibits where hundreds of butterflies, all of which are native species to Zanzibar, fly freely.

FBC Lanzarote

Lanzarote is situated just 120km off the coast of Africa and is the most easterly of the Canary Islands. Formed as a result of volcanic activity about 15 million years ago, it is 70km long and 20km wide with around 300 volcanoes! In 1992 it was declared as part of the World Biosphere Reserve and therefore under the protection of UNESCO. The island has a mild and sunny climate all year round with a truly unique light and spectrum of colours. There is huge scenic diversity here - on one hand strange rock formations and an almost lunar volcanic landscape - on the other fantastic wide golden or black sandy beaches pounded by perfect waves - real contrast and diversity everywhere you go.

FBC Lanzarote is situated at the beach of Las Cucharas in Costa Teguise on the north east of the island just 15 minutes drive from the airport. Costa Teguise has a huge variation in both the quality and type of food available and all tastes are catered for. The standard and diversity of accommodation is extremely high and ranges from 4 and 5 star hotels to simple self-catering accommodation. Everything is within easy reach, and all you need is in walking distance. However, we really do recommend hiring a car to take in some of the breathtaking eco-tourist attractions.

There is so much to do on this island in terms of sports and attractions for families, singles, couples … everybody! Lanzarote is also literally bursting with wave spots and TOP surf conditions all over the island. Warm clear waters and ideal weather conditions make it the perfect destination for pleasure seekers. Just a few hours by plane, Lanzarote is waiting to be re-discovered. See it with fresh eyes.

We recommend:

The Aquarium - Dive with sharks!

Mirador Del Rio - A view to die for.

Timanfaya National Park - 50 sq. km of volcanic landscapes, tubes and craters which will fascinate you no end.

Jameos del Agua - Lava tube with a natural concert hall, subterranean lagoon, restaurant and museum.

Famara – Probably the most impressive sandy beach, with the nicest sunsets and tons of waves.

FBC Martinique

Martinique is the second largest island of the French West Indies at the northernmost of the Windward Caribbean group – otherwise known as the “breezy islands”. The island is 65km long and 31km wide with a central plain (Le Lamentin) and mountains to the north and south, the largest of which is the active volcano Mount Pele at 1,397m. The north of the island (Atlantic side) has tropical rainforests surrounded by pineapple and banana plantations. The coastline is rugged with steep cliffs and volcanic black and grey sand coves. The south of the island (Caribbean side) has an irregular coastline with peninsulas, islets and sandy golden bays and beaches with calmer seas. In the middle of all of this spectacular scenery you will find mangroves, rainforest trails, waterfalls, plantations, wetlands, rolling green hills and a riot of colours.

FBC Martinique is located at the Pointe du Bout on the tip of a semi-island facing the capital, Fort de France.

There is so much to see and do here, hiking and biking, the golf courses are world class, the underwater world has an abundance of marine life and interesting wreck diving can be found on the island. The food (and indeed the whole island) is a mix of African, French, Creole, Caribbean and West Indian influences – which makes for rich and interesting tastes and experiences all round!

The charm of Martinique is hard to deny. With warm weather and warm water all year round, superb cuisine, incredible landscapes, stunning beaches and that laid back Caribbean vibe you know after your first Ti Punch that you made the perfect decision!

WE RECOMMEND:

Fort de France – The capital of Martinique with narrow winding streets and colourful markets

La Pagerie – Birth place of Napoleons Empress Josephine – a popular attraction

Mount Pele – Worth the climb for the spectacular views

Volcano Museum – Learn about the 1902 Mt. Pele eruption which destroyed a city and its’ entire population – except for one man!

Rum Distilleries – Some of the best rums in the world are produced here and tasting is always offered!

Lamentin Plain – Walk through rain forests and cool down bathing in waterfalls

HMS Diamond Rock – Gets a 12 gun salute from passing British war ships!

FBC St. Martin

Saint Martin is a glorious little island of low rolling hills, amazing beaches and warm seas located in the northeast Caribbean Sea. The island is the smallest bi-national territory on Earth, 87 km² divided in two parts: Up north the French side, down south the Dutch side . The Dutch Sint Maarten is dominated by duty-free shopping, casinos, cruiseship tourism and great night life. The French Saint Martin emphasizes on nature, comfort, elegance, luxury, pristine beaches and the finest gourmet cuisine. FBC St. Martin is situated on the French side to the east of the island in the heart of a peaceful and protected natural reserve where mangroves, turquoise water and white sand mix in total harmony (Baie du Galion -  Coconut Grove). Compared to the lively nearby Orient Bay there are no jet skis or motor boats here. The spot is a classic tropical paradise, and has been voted the best beach on the island. The eastern coast of St. Martin is exposed to almost constant trade winds.

The sea is always warm (around 27 degrees all year) and the water idyllically clear. All this water means endless water sports and water based activities can be experienced all around the island. Land sports feature highly too, with all terrain off-road guided tours, horse riding, tennis, golf and dedicated mountain bike trails. Finally – St. Martin is also renowned for fine cuisine. Whether dining in gourmet restaurants or the BBQ roadside shacks or “Lolos” - you will find something to satisfy all palates and wallets! J

St. Martin is a fascinating melting pot of people and influences from over 70 different nations – a truly Cosmopolitan atmosphere with a Caribbean twist! It is like nowhere you have ever been before – and you will never go anywhere like it again!

TRIP TIPS:

Fort St. Louis – Built in 1767 to protect from foreign invasion, the climb to the summit provides panoramic views of the island.

Marigot Market – Wednesdays and Saturdays – open air market with homegrown produce, tropical fruits, spices and fresh fish.

Grand Case – Famous for the small, pastel coloured wood houses. Here you find the finest cuisine of the island. Try Café Calmos for relaxed beach dining.

Paradise Peak – Spectacular views to the island and tropical forests below – at 414 m this is the highest point on the island.

Butterfly Farm (Le Galion) – Hundreds of rare and exotic butterflies in beautiful landscaped gardens.

Loterie Farm – Take an eco-hike and a tree top tour along ropes from tree to tree.

Catamaran Sailing - Eagles tours offers eco-friendly "around the island tours" - great opportunity to explore the whole island.

FBC Marsa Alam

Historically speaking, Egypt is not only one of the world's oldest civilizations but probably also one of the oldest holiday destinations in the world. There is much more to Egypt than pyramids and monuments – such as windsurfing and scuba diving in the Red Sea, vibrant night spots, luxury hotels and restaurants. Egypt is generally an incredibly rewarding cultural experience.

Marsa Alam is Egypt's unfinished rare diamond, just waiting to be shaped.  With the beautiful Wadi El-Gemal National Park, Marsa Alam is an unspoiled protected area, appealing to nature orientated people. It is not uncommon to see turtles coming to lay their eggs on the beach, or to snorkel or windsurf with Dugons (sea cows) next to you, and the beauty and harmony of the land surrounding you alone make it worth a visit … not to mention the wind !

WE RECOMMEND:

  • Sharm El Luli : a wild space that will make you feel like being in the Caribbean or the Maldives, with some white sandy beaches, superb coral reefs full of life, colourful schools of fish for some unforgettable snorkeling times away from the world.
  • Overnight trip to Luxor and visit of Karnak Temple and the Valley of the Kings with a private tour
  • Camel ride with local Bedouins or quad excursion to the nearby wadis and in the desert: you will never realize the true beauty of Egypt if you have not enjoyed its desert’s beauty, peace and vibrance. Special mention to the breathtaking Wadi El Gemal national park
  • Astronomy Center Marsa Shagara: experience the unique stars, constellations and night skies that only reveal themselves in the middle of the desert. Informative and fascinating.

FBC Gran Canaria

Gran Canaria is the main island of the Canaries. The African coast is about 210 km away. Gran Canaria is located between the islands of Fuerteventura (about 83 km east) and Tenerife (about 62 km west).

Gran Canaria is in the happy position of being pampered by wind all year long. Owing to the shape of the Canary Islands, the trade winds are deflected from every island, and in some places accelerated. However, nowhere is the acceleration as intense as it is on Gran Canaria. Due to the almost circular geography of the island and its mountains with a height of 2000m, the wind often accelerates and even doubles in strength to blow around 30 to 40 knots in summer. Should you get bored, we provide our pre-booked guests at the center with SUP, kayaks and body boards for free use in the event of windless days.

WE RECOMMEND:

Roque Nublo – Second highest point of the island with truly amazing views !

Palmitos Park – Great place where you can see exotic animals and amazing shows from a really close distance.

Barranco de Guayadeque – Canyon where natives were living in caves. Spectacular views and good restaurants located in the caves with typical local food.

Terror – Canarian village hidden in the mountains with amazing atmosphere and typical architecture. We recommend visiting this location on Sundays, when the local market offers canary specialities.
