SUP ZANZIBAR

Spot

Should the wind give you a break, you can also grab some SUP boards from the center and explore the lagoon and the reef, a beautiful experience where you will connect with the nature like never before ! Even better, the center works in cooperation with a professional SUP center that organizes some amazing mangrove tours on SUP. It takes place a few km north of Paje and only works out at certain hours of the day due to the tides, but these are hours you should definitely block … and will never regret ! Due to the shallow water on the whole spot of Paje, no windsurfing is offered at FBC Zanzibar.

Instruction

Last but not least, if there are no SUP lessons offered directly in Paje, you can join an unforgettable SUP mangrove Tour that can be booked at the center directly – a fantastic experience !!

Kitesurfing Zanzibar

Spot

FBC Zanzibar is situated on the beach at the most beautiful kitesurfing spot on the island, in Paje.

The two huge lagoons with a long white sandy beach and shallow crystal clear tropical warm water make this place a really unique kitesurfing experience. Both lagoons are available to play on, and at low tide the second lagoon can be reached within 10 minutes walking, but still the conditions are great further outside or a little bit further south of the center. It’s a perfect shallow water area great for lessons, and also superb for advanced freestyle lovers.

Conditions for beginners are some of the best in the world! There is a shallow lagoon during low tide with a sandy bottom and warm clear water, and the lagoon is protected from the waves by the outer reef. On top of this a very consistent side-onshore wind blows.

Outside the reef there are nice waves but only for experts and at your own risk!! The huge beach offers plenty of space for setting up. All year round the weather is warm, about 27-30 degrees – so board shorts and a lycra is more than enough!

The plantings of the seaweed farmers are everywhere along the coast, and some of them in front of the center, however they are marked by sticks and are easily visible.

There are two main wind periods on Zanzibar:

Beginning of June until end of September - the northerly monsoon wind known as the Kusini blows from the south (cross-onshore) with an average of 15-20 knots, and in the afternoons there is a small thermic wind bringing a few extra knots.

Beginning of December until end of February – the southerly monsoon Kaskazi blows with an average of 15-20 knots. This wind direction is less constant and can be quite gusty.

Kitesurfing excursions, rental and storage also available at the center.

Due to the shallow water on the whole spot of Paje, no windsurfing is offered at FBC Zanzibar.

Instruction

FBC Zanzibar is proud to offer a full range of kitesurfing instruction by fully qualified team members. It’s a great spot for learning and improving and lessons are offered across all levels. Progress is absolutely guaranteed with learning conditions that are described by most as some of the best in the world ! The more you stay, the more you’ll learn!

Courses are on offer for all levels (groups and private instruction) and taught by international qualified instructors. All courses include equipment and safety cover.

CERTIFICATIONS: Kitesurfing: IKO and KNWV

LANGUAGES: Courses are held in English, German, French and Dutch.

SUP & SURF MOULAY

Spot

The world famous wave spot 25km north of Essaouira, Moulay Bouzerktoun, is THE place to be if you want to get into and become totally hooked to surfing or SUP… or turn into a real pro !

It would actually be a total shame not to make of surfing and SUP an absolute priority in your daily schedule !  Try it once and you will realize there are simply not many better ways to start your day on this planet ! You can basically be sure to start everyday with a very nice session on your SUP or on your surfboard and whet your appetite for waves even more.

The conditions are exceptional to learn and practice in the morning but also sometimes late afternoon. Your level will decide of the time of the tide that is best for you and which part of the spot you will use as your training ground for some exhilarating rides without any danger… and always tons of space around you. In the middle of the day, the wind is usually too strong to ride comfortably.

This is a great spot with long and slightly hollow waves breaking on a reef about 500m off shore and then once again at the beach. The main break is a right but you can also get lucky and ride a shorter left further upwind in front of the cliffs. The waves can be very large in the winter (2m-5m, less in summer) but you always have plenty of water under your board at the peak and a sandy rescue beach downwind should you drift.

The additional magic of the place is that the conditions usually look (a lot) more radical than they actually really are, the wave is beautiful and offers enough power but one always feels safe. The launch might be stony but if there is a little bit of shorebreak, it has very little power and the current, while real, will never put you in danger. In other words, you will end up riding in conditions that will look impressive on photos while gaining great confidence whatever your level is and pushing your limits without fear !

Moulay should be on the must-visit list of all wave lovers as it's a fantastic reef break within short-haul travelling distance that is open to Atlantic groundswells.

It’s a fantastic spot – you, nature, like minded surfers, friendly locals and unforgettable sessions !

Kitesurfing is not offered by the center but private kiters of good level can sometimes been seen in the downwind part of the spot which features a wider partly sandy beach with no reefs or rocks on the beach (also called “Rescue Beach”)… and still a very nice long peeling wave to shred.

Instruction

Courses include equipment, wetsuit, safety cover.

INSTRUCTION SUP & SURFING: FBC Moulay also offers professional lessons for SUP and surfing. You can be sure to hit the water and improve with the right conditions pretty much everyday of the season, either mornings, or late afternoon, … or the whole day. So pack some energy, don’t look back and realize your surfing dreams!

LANGUAGES: Courses are held by an International Team of qualified instructors in English, French, Spanish and Arabic.

Windsurfing Moulay

Spot

The world famous wave spot 25km north of Essaouira, Moulay Bouzerktoun, is THE place to be if you want to learn and become a master at how to windsurf in waves, surf and jump, in a safe yet radical looking environment. Or measure yourself against some of the best in the world in that discipline ! What is sure is that your love for waves will only keep growing from there on.

The wind blows side shore from the right, the summer months (June - August) mean very strong wind and smaller waves, and in the Spring and Autumn the swell is bigger but the wind lighter – averaging 4-6 beaufort “only”. The day starts with light wind and then picks up through the day peaking around 2-3pm.

This is a spot for intermediates, advanced and pros windsurfers alike, with (sometimes very) strong winds and waves of all sizes (2m-5m in winter – less in summer) with a sandy rescue beach downwind should you break and drift.

The additional magic of the place is that the conditions usually look (a lot) more radical than they actually really are, the wave is beautiful and offers enough power but one always feels safe. The launch might be stony but if there is a little bit of shorebreak, it has very little power. In other words, you will end up riding in conditions that will look impressive on photos while gaining great confidence whatever your level is and pushing your limits without fear !

Moulay should be on the must-visit list of all wave sailors as it's the only reef break within short-haul travelling distance that is open to Atlantic groundswells and has a reliable thermal real side-shore wind. Plus it's starboard tack! (wind from the right)

It’s a fantastic spot – you, nature, like minded windsurfers, friendly locals and unforgettable sessions !

Kitesurfing is not offered by the center but private kiters of good level can sometimes been seen in the downwind part of the spot which features a wider partly sandy beach with no reefs or rocks on the beach (also called “Rescue Beach”)… and still a very nice long peeling wave to shred.

Instruction

FBC Moulay offers windsurfing instruction by fully qualified team members. Bruno the owner knows the spots and his sport extremely well and will ensure that you are taught in the best conditions for your level, always bringing you out on the water at the right time for a great session. One on one video coaching is a must!

LANGUAGES:

Courses are held by an International Team of qualified instructors in English, French, Spanish and Arabic.

SPECIALS: Gold Lessons (windsurf) – 1 on 1 instruction with a top level instructor including video coaching, all equipment. (If lessons cannot be completed owing to poor conditions then alternative activities will be proposed).

Windsurfing Lanzarote

Spot

FBC Lanzarote is located at Las Cucharas (Costa Teguise), right at the heart of the island's local windsurfing and surfing scene. The main center is 150m away from the water, in the middle of the crescent-shaped pure sandy bay of Las Cucharas, and safely surrounded by beach and shore on all sides. The second Watersports center (focusing more on SUP, Hawaii Canoe, Catamaran, Kayaks, body boards, skim boards and lessons) is close to the left end of the bay. Both cater for the individual needs of each guest, according to their level or sport of choice, and both centers are within easy walking distance one from the other.

The conditions are simply fantastic. The steady trade winds blow side-shore from the left and are most consistent during the summer (April-September), blowing regularly from 4-6 bft. During the winter the wind is more changeable and can vary in speed. The swell comes in at this time and transforms the island and her spots. The bay is sheltered by jetties and so an ideal area for beginners. Outside there is a shallow reef to the left where waves can easily reach 2-3 metres. Wave freaks and freeriders really are in for a treat.

A moderate shore break sometimes comes through to the beach in which case a team member is there to help you launch or return. The wind increases in strength the further out you sail. Right off of the beach there is a wind shadow in the first 100meters of the spot which offers perfect teaching windsurfing conditions for entry levels, with light winds and flat water. Further inside the bay in the main (high) wind area, the conditions are flat water and bump & jump, turning into open sea after approx. 500 meters. Perfect for freeriders and freestylers.

A wooden platform is set in the bay between the lighter wind teaching area and the high wind area, allowing people to attach their boards, have a rest and enjoy the action without sailing back to the shore.

The true magic of the place resides in its well known wave spot for all eager windsurfing addicts. The riding conditions are ideal - lots of space between the waves, always the possibility to exit the waves safely, and a wave that can get big, but breaks really nicely but has little power. Truly the ideal spot for people eager to sail in (easy) waves of good size, the main reef is perfect for (backside) riding as much as for jumping! The reform on the inner reef is smaller but good for front side turns and learning wave moves.

Next door to the center, a little café (Poco Loco) serves fresh local food everyday for great value, drinks, and free wi-fi. A must that becomes very easily addictive ! Kitesurfing is not on offer in the bay of Las Cucharas (and you will not see any private kiters either), but there are a few spots close by and around the island where experienced kiters will have a fantastic time.

Instruction

Everybody can learn practically everything at FBC Lanzarote. Thanks to the conditions on offer a beginner can be going through their first steps, whilst someone outside could be mastering their jumping or wave riding. The longer you stay, the more you learn!

Owing to the crescent shape of the bay and the wind direction (creating a slight wind shadow in the first 100m from the beach), windsurfing beginners are completely safe and can learn on flat calm water. Further out the wind speed increases and is great for speed sailing, freeriding and stance work. The gentle waves on the outer reef are absolutely perfect for first time wave riders and learning jumping techniques, with a safe exit and nice spacing between the waves. However, these waves can get quite big - so be prepared for an unforgettable thrill (in the safe hands of your instructor!)

FBC Lanzarote is indeed hot on safety! There are permanent lifeguards located at the beach (themselves addicted windsurfers), and the panoramic view of the spot from the center roof ensures that you can sail in comfort and safe in the knowledge that you are always being watched! As well as this, the 2 rescue boats are on the water and ready to go at all times.

LANGUAGES: Courses are held in English, French, Spanish and (basic) German

SPECIAL PACKAGES:

- Special beginner and intermediate courses including free sailing sessions under supervision.

- Special Kids Course (8 to 12 years old) with specifically adapted training boards (120 to 160 liters with center fin) and super light sails (1m² to 3m²)

Developed to be as flexible and efficient as possible, it is a structured system where you rent a board for your holidays and first receive discussions and tips on advanced maneuvers you want to master. You also get daily exercise programs using simulators and various aids and you are observed while you are out sailing. You receive a truly personal analysis and real time feedback throughout the day, without being blocked by the schedule of a course of set hours ... and you simply won’t believe how much you improve, without being under any time pressure: A must.
